Men's basketball: Bracket busted, sorrow on Senior Night

For the five seniors on the men’s basketball team, Tuesday night’s 73-62 setback to Hofstra hopes to only be mere smudge on what this team still plans to accomplish this year. The loss on senior night at Matthews Arena dropped the Huskies to 18-11 overall and 13-4 in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).

Men's hockey: Close win, not so close loss

After an exciting 3-2 victory over Boston College Friday at Matthews Arena Friday night, the men’s hockey team ended its winning streak Sunday in Chestnut Hill, losing 7-1. In a game that marked the third advance sell-out of the season on home ice, the Huskies got out to the early lead Friday night when junior captain and forward Tyler McNeely scored on a breakaway 1:50 into the contest.

Spring preview - Baseball: With big hitters gone, pitching will be key

“It was an emotional roller coaster.” Head coach Neil McPhee chose those words to describe the baseball team’s 2009 campaign. The season was defined by its highs and lows, ultimately resulting in a berth into, and early exit out of, the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) tournament.

Women's hockey: Sulyma’s shutouts lead to UConn sweep

Nothing got through goaltender Leah Sulyma in two shutout victories for the women’s hockey team this weekend. Sulyma, a junior, stopped every shot that came her way as the No. 8/9 Huskies took down No. 7 University of Connecticut in a shootout win in Storrs, Conn.

Women's basketball: Huskies extend winning streak to three

The women’s basketball team stayed hot at the right time as the squad extended its winning streak to three games with two wins over Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) opponents this week. The first contest took place Feb. 18 against UNC-Wilmington.

Women's soccer: Leone quickly adapting at women’s soccer helm

Tracy Leone took over as women’s soccer head coach after former coach Ed Matz abruptly resigned Jan. 7. She said she has quickly established a rapport with her new team, looking to pick up running right where Matz left off. “It’s been great,” said Leone, whose last women’s soccer job was as an assistant under her husband Ray Leone at Harvard University.

Column: There’s still reason to remain optimistic on men’s hoop

The trip to Williamsburg, Va., Feb. 13 to face Willam & Mary didn’t quite go as the men’s basketball team had hoped, as the Huskies lost 53-52. And then the BracketBusters game, on ESPN2 in front of a national audience, against Louisiana Tech last Saturday didn’t quite pan out, either, with NU dropping a 70-67 decision.

Player of the Week: Kim Carr

After dropping two straight games, the women’s basketball team rebounded with a three-game winning streak Feb. 14 to 21. Senior forward Kim Carr is the driving force behind the streak, logging 54 points and 27 rebounds as the Huskies disposed of Hofstra 56-52, UNC Wilmington 60-54 and Georgia State 50-40.
