Students reconnect on NU Missed Connections

Finding love can be awkward, forced and often embarrassing.  Making the first move, whether it’s flashing a smile or buying someone a drink, can be the start of something new – but only if you get there first. While some college students have no problem handing out their number to people they meet on the T or introducing themselves to a cute stranger, others are too shy to initiate conversation, and who may let love slip away before it has even begun.

Everyone had a freshman year tradition. For my three best friends and I, it was weekly brunch – Sundays, Stetson West, noon sharp … well, not always so sharp. Over chicken stir-fry and buffalo chicken pizza we shared stories from our previous “nighttime adventures” without fear of being judged.

Does the box of chocolates still cut it?

Walk through a mall, supermarket or convenience store lately and you will start seeing red – in the form of  heart-shaped boxes. Feb. 14 is just around the corner and stores are packing in boxes of chocolates for Valentine’s Day. It all began in the name of true love, St. Valentine as its advocate. It was 200 A.D. and young men were meant to be soldiers. If they had a wife they wouldn’t leave for battle, or so said the Emperor of Rome. But while the government forbade spirited young monogamy, Valentine said ‘So what? They’re in love!’ and performed weddings anyway.
