Wednesday March 11
2:15 a.m.
A Northeastern University Division of Public Safety (NUPD) officer on patrol on Huntington Avenue noticed two groups of people arguing near Rubenstein Hall. The officer approached them and sent both groups on their separate ways. Minutes later, the officer saw the same people in front of West Village H. After approaching them again, the officer checked the identification of everyone present. He arrested 27-year-old Matthew Rais, who has no university affiliation, on a default warrant from Somerville for failure to appear in court for vandalism and assault charges.
Noon
A staff member in the Cabot Center reported that uniforms from the women’s varsity basketball team had been stolen from the laundry room some time Tuesday.
2:30 p.m.
A Resident Assistant (RA) in West Village A reported the odor of marijuana coming from a room on the fourth floor. An officer knocked on the door and spoke with the resident, who admitted to smoking in the room. He turned over a bottle of wine and rolling papers. He will be reported to the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution (OSCCR).
5 p.m.
Curry Student Center (CSC) staff reported that one male and three females, all of whom have no university affiliation, were throwing trash around in CSC. NUPD officers gave them trespassing warnings.
Thursday, March 12
10 a.m.
A student living at 171 Hemenway St. reported hearing someone try to break into her apartment from the front door. She screamed and ran after the man, but he was gone by the time she got to the lobby. The apartment across the hall from her had been broken into, but nothing was stolen.
11 a.m.
A student reported that while studying in Snell Library he asked a woman sitting near him to watch his laptop for 10 minutes. When he returned, both the woman and his laptop were gone.
12:30 p.m.
A student in Stetson West reported that after having put her laundry in the washing machine earlier that morning, she returned to find much of it missing. She said it is the second time it has happened this semester.
Friday, March 13
1:15 a.m.
A student in Melvin Hall reported that his 19-year-old girlfriend had become extremely intoxicated and he was worried because she had fallen asleep after vomiting repeatedly. She was evaluated by EMTs, who decided she did not need further medical attention. She will be reported to OSCCR.
5 p.m.
A student reported her wallet missing after she left her belongings unattended for a while in the library Thursday. It contained $15 and credit cards.
11 p.m.
A student in West Village F called to report that an apparently intoxicated male had fallen on the fourth floor. Officers arrived and determined he was under the influence of hallucinogenic mushrooms. He was not injured during the fall and will be reported to OSCCR.
Saturday, March 14
1 a.m.
Two male freshman residents in Stetson West reported that a female freshman they knew had been assaulted about an hour earlier in the building. The officer located the woman and the student she was visiting. They had all been drinking when she and a third male resident left to find a guitar in another room. She said he touched her, but she had not been assaulted. The student was questioned and he said he had hugged her because he thought she had been flirting with him. He was found to be under the influence of hallucinogenic mushrooms. The students found drinking and the student using drugs will all be reported to OSCCR.
1 a.m.
Officers were dispatched to Davenport A where someone had discharged a fire extinguisher, setting off the fire alarm. The building was evacuated.
2 a.m.
A student on Columbus Avenue reported that after leaving a party he could not find his cell phone. He called his phone and a female picked up. They made arrangements to meet but she never showed.
4 a.m.
A proctor reported her laptop missing after she left it at her station in West Village A. She left to relieve other proctors during their breaks at other stations, and found it missing when she returned.
12 p.m.
A University of Massachusetts hockey fan reported that after leaving Matthews Arena during the hockey game the previous night she realized she had left her wallet on the floor under her seat. When she returned 20 minutes later, it was gone. It contained $20, credit cards and a Blackberry owned by her employer.
12 p.m.
A student in Davenport A arrived on campus with her parents and they parked their car on a side street for 15 minutes. When they returned, the car had been broken into and the portable GPS had been stolen.
10 p.m.
An usher at the hockey game saw a person drinking an alcoholic beverage in the stands. The officer approached him and identified him as a 21-year-old student. The officer confiscated a flask of whiskey and escorted him out of the arena.
Sunday, March 15
2:30 a.m.
An officer noticed a woman who seemed intoxicated trying to get into Our House East. She said she had left her car keys in the bar before they closed. In an effort to assist her, the officer knocked on the door. The manager explained that she is an employee but became intoxicated and had been told to leave. She became disorderly, started to scream and struck the officer during her attempt to get back into the bar. The officer arrested Marie Valcy, 29, of Brighton, for assault. When police booked her, they found her car keys in her coat pocket.
3 a.m.
A student in Kennedy Hall called to report her roommate had become intoxicated off campus and had returned sick and vomiting. EMTs evaluated her but she did not need further medical treatment. She will be reported to OSCCR.
3:15 a.m.
Police responded to Davenport B after someone manually pulled a fire alarm. The building was evacuated.
3:30 a.m.
Wentworth police called NUPD to report they had broken up a fight in front of Burstein Hall. One person was injured after being kicked in the face repeatedly. NUPD officers arrested the man who assaulted him, 19-year-old Northeastern student Rodrigo Alonso. Rodrigo told police he was walking back to Burstein where he lives and was harassed by two people (one of whom was the victim). He admitted to throwing the first punch because he was afraid they were going to attack him. Witnesses told NUPD he threw the first punch and continued to kick the victim while he was down.
3:50 a.m.
Police responded to Davenport B after the fire alarm was set off again. The building was evacuated. The officers were still in the building interviewing students about the first alarm when the alarm went off a second time.
12:30 p.m.
A student reported that her camera had been stolen the previous Tuesday from the photo lab in Ryder Hall between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Other students were in the lab at the time.
Monday, March 16
12 p.m.
Residence Life staff in Speare Hall informed police that during the weekend someone had written a racial slur on a flyer in the men’s room of the building. The staff held a mandatory meeting Monday night where the Resident Director addressed the residence hall population about the school’s intolerance of this sort of behavior. Officers encouraged students to come forward anonymously with any information regarding the incident.
3 p.m.
A student went to her class in Shillman Hall and realized she had left her wallet on a table downstairs while waiting for it to begin. When she went to look for it, it was gone and she reported it missing. At 4:30 p.m. a student turned the wallet into NUPD. He said he found it on a table while walking through Shillman. NUPD officers returned it to her and nothing was missing from it.
