As part of a heavily-advertised promotion for the first men’s hockey home game of the season, the Athletics Department distributed 1,000 free T-shirts with a grammar error at Friday’s game. The shirts, replica men’s hockey jerseys, had the phrase “Who’s house is this?” on the back, using the contraction for “who is” or “who has” instead of the possessive “whose.” The school will print more shirts, said Renata Nyul, Northeastern’s director of public relations. “We are not reprinting the same T-shirts, we are printing more T-shirts, different ones,” she said. Nyul could not immediately identify how much the shirts cost, where the funding came from or how many people approved the design before the shirts were printed. In the meantime, she said, “The shirts that were printed will be worth something on eBay.”

Sad that Husky Gator attends NU
Fri Oct 30 2009 12:55
As a current NU student, I am terrified that Husky Gator is a TA. "Obviusly" his "orgional" "critisism" "throughly" highlights the issue, as does his top "teir" "apolgee." Come on guys, if we're going to defend our institution can we at least not write like first graders? Whose house is this? Apparently it's a bunch of illiterate people's house.

Oh, and to those in the dog house who had "Go Huskys" written on their chests, it's huskIES. We're asking to get made fun of here guys, get it together.

ADF -

Yes, I want someone fired. Northeastern has let people get away with the "oh, it was only a tiny grammar mistake" type of excuses. We need ownership and accountability.

And for what it's worth grammar error on a posting board isn't comparable to a grammar error on a t-shirt that's got the school's name on it, and a sponsor's name on it. If I were to issue a document in my place of employment as visible as these t-shirts, and there was such a glaring error, someone would likely lose their job.

We live in an era of accountability. No one in athletics seems to be accountable for anything.

Hey "your name" (if that really is your name), do you know of Northeastern's history as a school that helped many working class students gain upward mobility? That was it's misson for a long time as a school founded by the YMCA. That's why the mascot is a Husky (working dog), why the orgional colleges were opened along professional lines (nursing, criminal justice, etc.), and why co-op (which origionated at the U. of Cincinatti not at Northeastern FYI) was implimented. However, today the majority of students here at Northeastern come from executive and (dare I say) PREVILIAGED backgrounds. They are not in dire need of upward mobility like many NU students that have graduated through the years. They come here because they believe it will help them land a nice job, with a nice paycheck, that can get a nice house. Now i must admit they I was generalising a little with my quote highlighted below by "your name". At least one NU student considers college a worthwild experience and not a hurdle to their excutive level future. In fact there is probably a whole bunch... To them, I apologise. I know that most nursing, sociology, women's studies, music, and history majors (my major) do not go into college intending to be a desk jockey (there are MANY other majors that should be included above but I kept it short). But I also know the waves of students (a lot of buissness majors, but not exclusively) who come to me after a bad grade on a paper angry at their grade saying that its unfair, that they deserve a better grade as though it was their birth-right. Unfortuately the work and effort they put into the papers is usually lackluster, and the final product is... well.. TERRIBLE. But they'll still beg and complain as they promise to send an scathing email about me to the department chair. These are the types of NU students I was commenting on in my quote. I did not mean to group all the NU students who love how college changes your mind in with these "hurdle jumpers".

Now I'm all for critisism, but constructive critisism at that. This comment board was set up to origionally post your opinion about the typo on the back of the shirts handed out at the last week's hockey game. Admitedly I took it past this origional intention to beg most posters to stop with the whole up-in-arms attutitde when it comes to a problem very miniscule to other injustices in the athletic department (like how all undergrads pay a fee every semester for a still unbuilt on-campus stadium). "Your Name", what constructive critisism do you offer? That I "get a life"? You obviusly didn't read my post throughly or you would have not incorrectly called me a "transfer student". I graduatd from Florida ('07), now go to graduate school (and hense T.A.) here at Northeastern. I got a degree, a job, debt, my giant german shepard Hans, and a future. I think that qualifies as a life. So I'll end with one final apolgee before I head home today; "Your Name", you obviuosly care about NU, and believed that I was speaking ill of NU out of spite or hatred. I didn't mean for my post to seam hateful. I ment for it to be a wakeup call. I ment for it to be constructive. You probably were personally insulted by this and I apologise, greatly. Know that I want NU to be in the top teir of schools in all facits of college life; academically and athletically. So please keep speaking up when you think someone is trying to slander Northeastern, but i wasn't going for that here. If I was, I think I'd choose a bigger forum than a Huntington News comment board.

There were deffinately some gramatical and spelling errors in the above post, for some reason my active spell check isn't working. Sorry.

We may not know grammar, but at least our hockey team has more than zero wins on the season.

To quote Husky Gator "students at NU don't consider college an educational and mind expanding experience. You considerate it an unfortuate hurdle to your cushy middle/upper leval executive position and suburban McMansion (which is the real reason for the lack of alumni donations)."

Thanks for contributing to the inaccurate stereotype that the 15,000 students at our urban, private college do not cherish the endless opportunities that our university brings. Also, thanks for assuming all students at Northeastern expect an executive position in our careers and to reside in a large home upon graduation. Assumptions that are insulting and disrespectful hold no merit. In addition, how did you link commenting about an university endorsed, misspelled shirt to not appreciating our education and wishing for a successful career? As a transfer or graduate student, I'm surprised you would hold such negative feelings about the university you researched and decided to earn your degree from. Get a life, Gator.

What are you talking about... Boston University IS a safety school.

Now off for a morning run.

...and you people steal BC's chant and try to call BU a "safety school." Despite my hesitancy to even dignify such a claim with a response, I will point out that BU students and staff know basic grammar rules. Enjoy your miserable hockey season and your miserable careers working for students of the other three Beanpot schools!

Hint NU sports fans; if you spend all your time trying to find faults with the athletic dept., you'll forget to support the programs that need and want it. I'm all for criticism, but constructive critisism. I went to Florida (great school for sports F.Y.I.) and now go to grad school here at NU. All you guys (Most NU Sports fans) do is pretend to know everything thats going on behind closed doors and demand that people get fired. College sports is not a rhelm for you to practice politics (SGA people I'm looking at you)!!! It's a rhelm to unify a school, a forum to show your patriotism (if you have it), and the front porch of a university. Then again, students at NU don't consider college an educational and mind expanding experience. You considerate it an unfortuate hurdle to your cushy middle/upper leval executive position and suburban McMansion (which is the real reason for the lack of alumni donations). There were countless spelling/gramatical errors on UF promotions (especially those coming from student groups). A banner for homecoming (gator-growl) was raised by athletics with wagon spelled "wagen". Did anyone care? probably. But it wasn't the blunder of the century. You know what is; how NU football is being managed/coached; How the ticket system is a relic from the eighties; how you can't buy an authentic red or white hockey jersey . These are problems people should care and talk about, not an error steming from an anomaly in the possesive adjective rule. Who's, Whose... Who CARES??!!!!! I don't.

I know my post is probably laden with gramer and spelling errors. I don't care, Hooked on Phonics messed me up.

Hello again "Nicole Jackson for President" aka NU grad Enzo Yaksic. Somehow I do not remember saying anything about this t-shirt process but really though, fake quotes? You've sunk that low huh? Time to grow up.
And NU Senior these t-shirts were an Athletics Department thing, not SGA. SGA does the DieHard Dogs shirts

"Whomever approved the design should be fired. Period. It's simply terrible that this was allowed to happen." -- Not to nitpick, DOB, but if it's in the subject, the word should be "whoever." Still want some one fired?

Given that H&R Block had their logo on the back of the shirt, I would assume that THEY paid for the shirts...

I agree, someone must be held accountable for this error. Whomever approved the design should be fired. Period. It's simply terrible that this was allowed to happen.

As for the "where are the alumni" - don't worry, our seats are sold and paid for.

Students get in for free, why are you paying for a ticket?

And in a related story, Darren Costa stated that he is doing everything in his power to rectify this situation. Costa is working hard to make sure all the voices of students, faculty and alumni are heard in this process. "The provost and his goons will be held accountable for this" Costa said.
