Northeastern University Division of Public Safety evacuated Snell Engineering and Egan Research Center Saturday night after someone heard a hissing noise from a lab in room 302, said interim university spokesperson Jim Chiavelli. Initial reports had put it at Egan Research Center. NUPD called Boston Fire Department who is treating the incident as a possible chemical spill and hazmat crews responded the scene. (1) comment

BRC faces in-house review

Budget Review Committee (BRC) chair Jennifer Hardy announced at a committee meeting last night that the BRC will form a group to evaluate how the year has gone so far, said Garrett Marques, a member of the BRC. "We're looking to service as much of the student population as possible while still trying to work with the new budget constraints," Marques said. (1) comment

Some members of the Northeastern community may see fewer opportunities for research funding following Congress' Sept. 30 passage of the 2009 Continuing Resolutions Bill, which will hold current research funding levels through March. The school obtains some of its grants from the National Institute of Health (NIH), according to the university's research website. (0) comments

As the current economic woes and an uncertain monetary future threaten many institutions across the country, university officials say Northeastern's $700 million endowment and the school's operating budget do not face major threats. "University endowments, like all investors, have been negatively impacted by the current economic situation, including Northeastern University," Jim Chiavelli, interim university spokesperson, said in a statement. Helen Pham, a junior chemistry major, was one of five students recently waiting to give her acceptance speech at the Harvard Club, an exclusive social club in Boston for Harvard alumni and associates. Tuesday, Sept. 30 9:30 a.m. A parking attendant in the Columbus Parking Lot reported a car with a forged decal and the car was towed. The owner of the car later identified himself as an undergraduate student, and admitted that he photocopied his roommate's parking decal. (0) comments
