Last week, senior forward Jimmy Russo left the Portland Pirates, the AHL team he had signed an amateur tryout agreement with March 22.
He parted ways with the Pirates in the hopes that he'll find a position with a team that can offer more playing time, he said in an interview with The News Friday.
Russo said he hadn't gotten much of a chance to show the team what he could do yet, and decided to look at other places where he might have an opportunity to get more ice time.
"I went and talked to the coach and the situation was that they were getting a veteran back and I probably wasn't going to be able to play," he said. "So I left to get an opportunity to do that somewhere."
Russo also said he didn't know what the immediate future held, but that he was sorting out other offers and would likely know the direction of his professional career by the end of the week.
"I've just been talking to my family advisor and my agent, trying to figure out what's going on," he said.
Russo is pursuing a professional career after lettering four years for NU, during which he amassed 124 games played and 53 career points.
