When sophomore psychology major Christina Lavorna received word from Northeastern this summer that her federal work-study status had been changed to an NU Job, she was surprised and worried she wouldn't be able to resume her previous position from the spring. (0) comments

After being told they had two weeks to move from their offices, the outcries of 13 student groups have been heard- partially. The groups that call room 232 Curry Student Center (CSC) home have been given an extension until late November to move from their offices up to a computer lab on the fourth floor of the student center. Northeastern's chapter of Delta Zeta sorority was suspended two weeks ago as part of the fallout of an off-campus party held earlier this month that was broken up by police, officials said yesterday. The limited, or administrative suspension will continue until the administration completes its investigation of the Mission Hill party that resulted in eight students being summonsed by Boston police, and many more reported to the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution. Felix Fernandez Pizzi, Northeastern's new alcohol and other drug counselor, came to the university with the hope of developing and strengthening the services and counseling students can receive, in relation to alcohol and drug awareness. One of Pizzi's main concerns is that students realize counseling services are to help students rather than lecture them into giving up their alcohol consumption. (1) comment

The U.S. Department of Justice granted $200,000 to Northeastern's Human Services Program in the College of Arts and Science in order to open a new Campus Center on Violence Against Women. The Center will serve as a hub of information, education and services to "further develop the university's existing sexual assault prevention program, while enlisting students in peer education and strengthening the university's collaboration with community organizations like the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC) and the Victim Rights Law Center," according to a release. While the administration is evaluating the space for student group offices in the Curry Student Center, light is being shed on the issue of efficient locations for programming. Call it a meeting of the minds - of presidential proportions. Northeastern President Joseph Aoun answered a wide variety of questions in a student forum in the Curry Student Center Ballroom Thursday, hosted by the Student Government Association (SGA). President Aoun was joined by members of his senior administration, as students asked questions ranging from academic and financial concerns to the status of the university's Institutional Master Plan and the possibility of a new athletic facility. Many students participating in Greek life today don't live a lifetime commitment to a group's values because they are not practicing their initiation rituals properly, Dr. Mari Ann Callais said to a crowd of about 60 students at the Curry Student Center Ballroom Sunday night. (0) comments

More than 580 Northeastern students volunteered around Boston for the 11th annual NU Service Day last Saturday, according to a release. The event provides an opportunity for Northeastern students and local residents to participate in a day of hands-on service to surrounding neighborhoods and partner organizations. (0) comments

Dennis Eckersley's Hall of Fame baseball career was filled with impressive statistics, including 197 wins, 390 saves, 2,401 strikeouts and a 3.50 ERA. Despite an increasing demand for nurses, a shortage of nursing professors across the country forced some schools to cut back on student capacity last year, according to recent studies. At Northeastern, a new program looks to help combat the shortage. Next September, the university plans to offer a new doctorate program in nursing. (0) comments

Crime Log Entry of the Week: Wednesday, October 11 3 p.m. Staff at Wollaston's in the Marino Center detained an 18-year-old male student believed to be shoplifting.
