Celebration of illumination
Head to Krentzman Quad for the Celebration of Illumination, the annual tree lighting ceremony, sponsored by fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon, a capella group the Downbeats and the office of Student Affairs. Celebrate the holiday season and the start of December by decorating gingerbread or making a snow globe. The Downbeats will sing seasonal songs and warm refreshments will be provided. The event goes from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.; sal@neu.edu.

Chess
Chess, the rock musical about love, politics, the Cold War and the board game, is being performed at the Adams Pool Theatre at 26 Plympton St., Cambridge, until Sunday. With lyrics and music written by Tim Rice and two members of ABBA, the musical’s song “One Night in Bangkok” reached No. 3 on the Billboard charts in 1984. The show is being put on by the Adams House Drama Society and tickets are $7 for students; the show starts at 8 p.m. each night; 617-496-2222.

Luminous windows: holograms in the 21st century
The MIT Museum will present Luminous Windows: Holograms for the 21st century at 265 Mass. Ave. in Cambridge. The exhibit will display contemporary, three-dimensional holographic pieces on the windows outside the Mark Epstein Innovation Gallery, and will be visible from 4 p.m. until 2 a.m. The free exhibit will run until March and features artwork by six artists from five countries; 617-253-4444.

Winter showcase
NUDANCO, the Northeastern Dance Company, will host its sixth annual Winter Showcase in Blackman Auditorium. The company promises new styles and dancers for the show, as they have eight new choreographers and 15 new pieces to perform. Taza chocolate factory tour
A golden ticket isn’t necessary for a free tour of the bean-to-bar Taza Chocolate Factory at 561 Windsor St. in Somerville. Whisk over to the factory to see how all of the store’s organic confections are made from scratch. Visitors also get to taste all the different varieties of chocolate Taza creates as they watch how they’re made, including hot chocolate and bars. The tours run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and are expected to have a high turnout, so get there early; 617-623-0804.

Rock for tots
Bay State College will host Rocks for Tots, a benefit rock concert to raise money for the charity Toys for Tots, which donates presents to less fortunate children during the holiday season, at the Paradise Rock Club, 967 Comm. Ave. There will be a dance performance by Status Quo, who were the runners-up of TV show America’s Best Dance Crew, and bands include Raposo, Outer Stylie, Codeine Comely and Drive like Carson, plus DJ Nicky G and DJ Scott Abrahamsen. Sixty years of human rights
The School of Law is hosting a group of panelists to discuss Sixty Years of Human Rights: Why the Universal Declaration Still Matters at 230 Dockser Hall. The event commemorates the 60th anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights, which came with the end of World War II, and represented the first global expression of rights for all people. Speakers include Cathy Albisa, director of the National Economic and Social Rights Initiative and Richard Daynard, professor in the School of Law and director of the Tobacco Control Initiative. A charlie brown christmas
A Charlie Brown Christmas will be screened in the Sacred Space, courtesty of the Spiritual Life Center, on the second floor of Ell Hall, and will be followed by christmas carols, cookies, popcorn and hot cocoa at Krentzman Quad under the Christmas tree.
