On an unusually warm morning last Monday in Dorchester's Codman Square, a 19-year-old man stood in front of the post office at 554 Washington St. Then, according to police reports, a 20-year-old male and 16-year-old female, both of Dorchester, allegedly walked up to the man with a gun.

From the checkered tablecloths to the buttermilk pancakes and oldies blaring over the stereo system, Mike's City Diner is a no-frills kickback most college students can afford.

Located at 1714 Washington St. in the South End, the diner seems to have come out of the 1950s: The servers are exceptionally friendly, chatting with customers about everything from clothing to Celtics games; countertops are painted fire-engine red; there are no televisions and diners are in clear view of the open kitchen.

It was the year 2000 all over again for hundreds of Northeastern students last night as Lance Bass, of 'NSYNC fame, arrived on campus to discuss his professional and personal life.
The predominantly female crowd shrieked at the sight of the former pop star, and some were even at a loss for words during the Q&A session.

Changes by the Budget Review Committee (BRC) to alter the way funds are allocated to student groups and streamline event proposals have begun, BRC and Student Government Association (SGA) administrators said.

The changes, stemming from a Nov. 3 meeting between the BRC and about 50 students from various student groups, include the addition of liaison jobs for preexisting BRC members, a scheduling change that allows the BRC, which operates under SGA, to review every proposed event for each month at once and a mandatory informational workshop for all student groups requesting funding for an event, BRC Chair Jennifer Hardy said.

Obama's win in the presidential election ushered in a transformation of a nation but most importantly a transformation of the nation's youth. The nation's young voters have, according to most estimates, contributed heavily to his win.

Now having celebrated, and deservably so, the impact of their voting power it is also important to build on the momentum and expand their rejuvenated confidence and self worth.
