I have noticed that The News rarely features articles about Greek Life here at Northeastern. The only articles that seem to focus on fraternities and sororities are published when they get in trouble with the law or the university, or when they sponsor an event.

But even when they sponsor an event, they are only mentioned once. Occasionally there will be an article about a fraternity or sorority doing community service.

I just want to let the rest of the Northeastern community know that Greek Life does more than just party and get in trouble. Starting at the end of March and continuing into the first week of April, the entire Greek community participated in Greek Week. Greek Week consists of a week of activities that involve competition that also brings all of the fraternities and sororities together.

On March 29, Greek Week started with Powderpuff football. It was perfect weather for the sisters of all sororities to play some football. The winners of the day were Sigma Delta Tau, which were coached by Alpha Epsilon Pi and Beta Gamma Epsilon.

On March 30, the fraternities and sororities participated in Greek Week Olympics. There were many different activities, including a relay race and an eating competition.

Tuesday brought the most exciting and most anticipated event, Greek Sing. For the first time, it took place in Blackman Auditorium. Members of fraternities and sororities danced, sang and acted to show their Greek spirit. Many of the fraternity members who participated made fools of themselves, all in good fun. The sororities did a wonderful job in dancing and occasional singing. The winners were Kappa Sigma and Delta Zeta.

Wednesday brought the talent show known as Greek God and Goddess. The participants were judged on talent, toga outfit and answers to questions about the school and Greek Life. The winners were Kappa Sigma and Delta Zeta.

The week was wrapped up on Thursday with Greek Awards. All different awards were given to individual members of fraternities and sororities, as well as entire fraternities and sororities. The big winners of the night were Kappa Sigma, who won fraternity of the year, and Delta Zeta, who won sorority of the year.

Overall, Greek Week was a huge success, as it showed that Greek Life at Northeastern is starting to become more popular and important to the Northeastern community. With this happening, I would hope that The News would start to feature regular articles about Greek Life.
